Statement of Governor M. Jodi Rell on Economic Situation
Governor M. Jodi Rell today issued the following statement:
"The news from Wall Street is bleak and the effects of the market turbulence continue to resonate in our state. Connecticut continues to outperform our neighbors and many other states – but as this economic situation drags on, simply doing better than everyone else is not good enough.
"I held lengthy discussions today with my economic advisors. We agree that passage last week of the economic package for Wall Street is not yet easing the credit crunch. That is affecting consumers, businesses and municipalities, some of which are having trouble with their bond issues.
"I am working with my advisors and state officials to alleviate some of these problems. In the coming days I will be announcing concrete steps that should help ensure that – at least in Connecticut – businesses will have more steady access to credit and cities and towns will be able to deal with the effects of these credit restrictions."
