CCM writes to Governor and Leaders to urge for action to extend municipal real estate conveyance tax
May 11,2010
The Honorable M. Jodi Rell
Governor of Connecticut
Executive Chambers
State Capitol Building
Hartford, CT 06106
Dear Governor Rell:
Thank you for coming to a budget agreement that protects most municipal aid from budget cuts and your
recognition that such cuts would merely shift the State's budget problems to towns and cities.
CCM appreciates your support for a Special Session to enact legislation extending the present rates of the
municipal real estate conveyance tax. We urge one be held before the June 30 sunset date and for the rates to
be extended for at least two years. If the rates are allowed to sunset, towns and cities would lose some $20-25
million in non-property tax revenue.
CCM and municipal officials from across Connecticut stand ready to help you in the effort to save this critically
needed local revenue. Please let us know how we can best help. We look forward to working with you.
The Honorable Christopher Donovan
Speaker of the House
Legislative Office Building
Room 4100
Hartford, CT 06106
Dear Speaker Donovan:
Thank you for your efforts during the past session to protect most municipal aid from budget cuts and your
recognition that such cuts would merely shift the State’s budget problems to towns and cities. CCM also
applauds the leadership you showed in forming the “MORE” Commission and galvanizing House support for its
recommendations.
CCM appreciates your support for a Special Session to enact legislation extending the present rates of the
municipal real estate conveyance tax. We thank the House for passage of an extension during the busy last day
of the regular session. We urge you to hold such a session before the June 30 sunset date and to extend the rates
for at least two years. If the rates are allowed to sunset, towns and cities would lose some $20-25 million in nonproperty
tax revenue.
CCM and municipal officials from across Connecticut stand ready to help you in the effort to save this critically
needed local revenue. Please let us know how we can best help. We look forward to working with you.

Senate President Pro Tempore
