LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The Hazard Communication Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1200,
provides workers who are exposed to hazardous chemicals
with the right-to-know about the identity of the
chemicals in their workshap and their hazards. The
OSHA standard also requires employers to provide
training on appropriate protective measures.
This program consists of the following topics:
- Explanation of the OSHA HAZCOM STANDARD,
29 CFR 1910.1200.
- Explanation of toxic substances in the workplace
and identifying what appears on a product label.
- Discussion of the information presented in the 8
sections of the Material Safety Data Sheets
(MSDS).
- Explanation of the purpose of a MSDS.
- Definition of the words and terms found on a MSDS.
- Explanation of where MSDS’s are kept.
- Identify rights and responsibilities of employees.
- Discuss methods of controlling physical and health
hazards.

SPEAKERS
Catherine Zinsser
Occupational Safety Training Specialist, CONN-OSHA
Mrs. Zinsser has been with Connecticut OSHA for three years.
She has a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Hygiene from
Quinnipiac University. Mrs. Zinsser has been in the safety
and environmental consulting field for several years as a
CONN- OSHA Training Specialist. Mrs. Zinsser has responsibility
for CONN-OSHA training activities.

DIRECTIONS
I-95 NORTH (From New Haven): Take I-95 North to Exit 67. Keep to
the right of the exit. This will put you on Route 154. You will continue straight
on Route 154. At the third light, take a left onto Main Street (still Route 154).
Travel approx. ½ mile down Main Street. The driveway to Town Hall parking
lot is on the left at the end of the median divider, next to Old Town Hall
with big white columns. Additional parking is available on Main Street in
front of the town green.
I-95 SOUTH (From Providence): Take I-95 South to Exit 68. Continue
straight. Bear right at the stop sign onto Route 1. At first light, take a left onto
Route 154. At third light, take a left onto Main Street (Route 154). Travel
approx. ½ mile down Main Street. The driveway to Town Hall parking lot is
on the left at the end of the median divider, next to Old Town Hall with big
white columns. Additional parking is available on Main Street in front of
town green.
From HARTFORD: Take I-91 South to Route 9 South. Take Exit 2 off
Route 9 South (Old Saybrook - Route 154). Take a right at the end of the
exit onto Route 154/Middlesex Turnpike. At 3rd light be in the left lane.
At the 4th light take a left, this will put you on Main Street (Rt. 154). Travel
approx. ½ mile down Main Street. The driveway to Town Hall parking lot
is on the left at the end of the median divider, next to Old Town Hall with
big white columns. Additional parking is available on Main Street in front
of the town green.
