"What does the accreditation process bring? Among many other benefits, it brings greater effectiveness and greater credibility."

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Achieving Connecticut Police Accreditation is a proven way for police departments to reduce their vulnerability to civil liability claims. While the obvious benefit is lowered insurance premiums, the accreditation process also helps improve performance and adherence to procedures, increases credibility within the community, and improves operational efficiency within the agency.

Connecticut’s police accreditation standards were specifically developed for the state’s police agencies. The standards are grouped into three tiers: liability standards, professional standards, and general management standards. The process helps police agencies identify potential liability issues and the actions they should take to address them.

In this new CIRMA workshop, police accreditation expert, Ted Lemay, explains the accreditation process while sharing his valuable experience and insights.

This interactive workshop discusses:

  • The background of the Connecticut Police Accreditation process.
  • Getting started: picking the accreditation manager, preparing the department.
  • Getting organized: accessing, storing, and retrieving information.
  • Managing and proving compliance with the standards—the real work.
  • Preparing for the onsite assessment; reviews and mock assessments.
  • The POST-Council onsite assessment; protocol and exit interview.
  • Re-accreditation.
AUDIENCE This workshop is designed for:
  • Chief Elected Officials
  • Town Managers
  • Police Commissioners
  • Police Chiefs
  • Risk Managers
