Workshop:
Ethics and Conflicts of Interest
Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008
Edith Wheeler Memorial Library, Monroe CT.
9:00 a.m. - 12 NOON, Registration at 8:30 a.m.
DESCRIPTION
The headlines read:
“POLITICIAN CAUGHT IN CONFLICT OF INTEREST”
“COUNCILMAN DENIES ALLEGATIONS”
How can you keep this from happening to you?
The definition of ethics according to Webster is straightforward: the
discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty and
obligation. But conflicts of interest arise from this definition and many
municipal codes. Knowing the ethical principles and issues at the
municipal level will help you learn the skills and good judgment to
recognize when you are in a conflict of interest situation.
This in-depth program will address:
- What authority do CT municipalities have to establish local ethics
commissions and codes of ethics?
- What are the powers of local ethics commissions in Connecticut?
- What do municipal codes of ethics contain?
- What is a conflict of interest?
- What is ethical behavior?
