LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The Workers' Compensation Fraud Prevention workshop
teaches managers how to recognize the different types of
Workers' Compensation fraud and lower the rate of fraudulent
claims.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau estimates that
WC fraud is the fastest growing insurance scam in the nation.
Today, 10 cents out of each premium dollar is wasted on fraud.
No organization is immune to WC fraud. Twenty percent of
respondents in an Insurance Research Center survey said they
were aware of a WC fraud scheme at their workplace.
The most notorious WC fraud is the phony workplace injury.
Fraud can also take the form of malingering: an employee
prolonging a legitimate claim to avoid returning to work.
The objective of this workshop is to empower managers with
the information they need to actively lower incidents of WC
fraud in their organizations. This workshop will help you to:
- Recognize the subtle signs of abuse and fraud.
- Understand the legal distinction between fraud
and abuse.
- Understand and leverage the CIRMA Special
Investigative Unit (SIU) efforts to control fraud and
abuse.
- Understand and communicate supervisory
responsibilities in fraud prevention and control.
- Build an organizational culture that does not tolerate WC fraud.
