WEBINAR

PROGRAM OVERVIEW back to top

Please join us to learn about municipal success stories and how your municipality can join with others in the 2021 Municipal EV Readiness Blueprint: 9 Month Action Plan Program.

The State of Connecticut has enacted statutes that require an 80 percent reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions below 2001 levels by 2050, with an interim target of 45 percent below 2001 levels by 2030. Transportation accounts for 38% of Connecticut’s greenhouse gas emissions and is a major contributor to our global climate crisis, from the use of fossil fuels in passenger cars, and medium- and heavy-duty trucks and buses. In order to reach these goals, transportation will need to become zero-emission. The state has committed to striving to make all new vehicles zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) by 2050 with an interim goal of 30 percent by 2030 for new medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. And 125,00 light duty/passengers vehicles by 2025.  Furthermore, utilities will be impacted by wide-scale adoption of EVs in a variety of ways. They can be proactive and assist municipalities to meet the demand in an efficient manner.

Connecticut’s municipalities play a key role in electrification. and can make a big impact  helping achieve Connecticut’s ZEV commitments and improving air quality by converting to electric vehicles (EVs) and supporting MUD, public, private and destination charging infrastructure. Moving toward electrification also helps to keep municipalities competitive.

The Municipal EV Readiness Blueprint 9 Month Program aligns with the CT DEEP's Electric Vehicle Roadmap for Connecticut to achieve widespread deployment of EVs in the state, and offers municipalities a pathway to converting fleets and adopting policies necessary to support charging infrastructure while working toward and planning for equity, to advance EV adoption. The purpose of the program is to support municipalities taking action toward EV Readiness.

Each month, virtual modules will  provide a community, municipal, state agency or business champion who will provide expertise in that topic, along with course reading materials, tools, resources, action task, and a community of support to help all municipalities succeed in the program. Certificates of Completion  will be awarded to municipalities that complete the program, and can then be submitted to Sustainable CT to apply for points.
